The Impact of Mental Health
July 12, 2023

Mental health is often regarded as being mindfulness of one’s psychological, social and emotional state. It is one of the most pandemic issues in the world today where we face multiple mental disorders. Flipping the pages of history on mental health, Dr. Benjamin Rushdie was considered the first person who was sure that mental illness was a disease of the mind, ‘not a possession demons’ opposing those against it.
Research has shown that 19% of the adult population are negatively impacted by mental health, and impacts the well-being of countless people worldwide. Mental health issues have become a crisis of mankind today without a shadow of doubt.
On top of this, many people are unaware regarding the term ‘mental health’ these days; as a result, they suffer with various kinds of undiagnosed mental disorders that have a lifelong impact and create long-term illness. It is believed that 1 in 5 American adults experience a mental health disorder; 1 in 6 young people have been the victims of depression and 1 in 20 Americans have experienced severe mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and other major depressive cases as proved by SAMHSA.
Correspondingly, one of the researchers opined that the average age of being aware about mental health is 14; however, the issue may go unrecognised until they reach to adulthood. Sadly, this is the bitter reality of our generation!
At its very core, the mental health issue has become one of the darkest parts of our lives and it has caused some of the most damaging patterns, negatively impacting our overall well-being. Undoubtedly, the less close we are to ourselves, the more we are likely to be a victim of mental illness.
Better Health Channel rightly stated that people suffering with mental illness feel reluctant to open up, which leads to chronic illness and almost impossible to recover. Also, when others stigmatize the mentally ill person regarding their illness, their mental health is increasingly affected and traumatized.
All in all, the pivotal notion of mental health is an unconfined state of contentment and mindfulness. If we are able to master stigmatization and stereotypes enabling ourselves to recover without being reluctant, we shall be literally capable to end the stigmas about mental illness while welcoming mental health the other side.
Once, Lauren Forge Mersey vividly opined that being able to be true to be your true self is one of the components of good mental health. Thus, mental health is vital in order to have thriving and healthy mindset.
