In early 2008, 15 destitute children arrived at Asha Nepal in Kathmandu. All had come from desperate situations – some were rescued from being trafficked, some were born in brothels and rescued along with their mothers, one was living on the streets, others the children of women who had suffered abuse and been cast out. Both Shakti Samuha and Shakti Milan Shamaj worked hard to find them a home that could provide full care for them, but without success. And so, although it was beyond our resources, our only option was to take on the care of the children.

AN has found them a temporary home run by a small local NGO, but to ensure the optimum level of care, we want  to raise funds to set up our own hostel for the children. Meanwhile, we have pledged to pay for their education, clothing and other expenses, under our new Children’s Education Scheme.

Finding a suitable school was hard, as it quickly became clear that children not supported by their parents were open to abuse and discrimination from both fellow pupils and staff.

Finally we found an excellent school, but the fees are high. We have three sponsors but urgently need more. Please sponsor a child.
