SOS Bahini, Pokhara
SOS ("Save Our Sisters") Bahini is a Nepali-run NGO that cares for girls in a family environment. The 26 girls in their care have come from desperate situations (sexually and/or physically abused, orphaned, in forced labour, homeless, suffering from the effects of severe poverty, at risk of being trafficked). If it weren't for SOS Bahini taking these girls into their care, the girls would have been at strong risk of being abducted and further abused. Now, they live in homes with a house mother and go to local schools, and join in creative and confidence-building activities such as karate, photography, arts and crafts and dancing. They are also offered counselling and awareness programmes, and creative vocational projects.
