Asha-Nepal - Halfway House

The Asha Nepal office shares premises with our Halfway House project aimed at getting girls infected and affected by HIV into employment. The office is up the stairs, within days of opening the unit the House Mother Kabita had set potted plants on the steps.

The Shakti Halfway House is a hostel for young women infected or affected by HIV and fit and willing to find employment. Established in 2007 by Shakti Milan Shamaj and Asha Nepal, and funded by AN, the hostel has capacity for up to 60 women a year, who stay for three to six months each. It is supported by a house mother, counsellor and our full-time Job Coordinator.

We provide counselling and medical support and fund vocational training, and have recently increased provision to offer alternative therapy courses. Residents are also included in many of the activities at Shakti Kendra. This project is currently in dire need of funding, since our previous source has just come to the end of their 3 year commitment.
