Friends of Asha-Nepal
Over the eight years since we started (originally as The Maiti Children’s Trust) we have taken on more and more ongoing projects.
Every year the number of women and children disappearing from the villages of Nepal, trafficked into the sex industry of India or sexual slavery in the Middle East has increased. In 2004 the fig was 12,000. While the numbers of children who disappear goes up the age of the target group goes down. When we started the main target group was 14 to 20 year olds, it is now 10 to 16 year olds.
As we take on more ongoing projects our outgoings obviously increase, and funds can get dangerously low, threatening the long-term success of certain projects. This can be critical. For instance as you may have seen on C4’s Unreported World approx 40% of victims rescued have contracted HIV, once a medication program starts it is dangerous to stop, and therefore our commitment must continue. Similarly, though to less drastic effect, education programmes for rescued children and children at risk can seriously affect the individuals concerned. We seriously need to create a regular income to ensure these projects are not affected.
To this end the Trustees have founded “The Friends of Asha-Nepal”. A minimum donation of £25 per annum will help the women and children we care by ensuring the level of aid we dispense does not diminish. Friends will receive a quarterly newsletter and information on all functions and activities carried out by Asha-Nepal and its partners. Please help us today to safeguard tomorrow for hundreds of women and children in Nepal.

Many thanks for your kind support.
